All About Karlu

Karlu Baloch | Karlu is a Baloch Sub Caste of Seraiki speaking people living in Multan, Dera Ismail Khan and Bhakar Districts of Punjab and KP. Their native villages in these Districts are Moza Karlu in Tehsil Darya Khan and Karluwala in Hyderabad Mankera, Bhakar. Moza Karlu is located near indus river in Darya Khan Tehsil of District Bhakkar. Oldest available record of the Revenue State (Moza Karlu) is held with Revenue Department of Bhakkar which was a Tehsil of District Mianwali and later became a District. According to the record (document with translation below) in early 1700s, before the advent of British Indian Government, the area was ruled by Baloch Local Government, during which Himmat Khan Karlu (addressed as Zameendar or Landlord) was alloted 3 thousand acres of lands by Baloch Rulers of that time. The place came to be known as 'Moza Karlu'. Later it was transferred / distributed among Himmat Khan's Children. The Moza was rich with crops and fruit orchards untill destroyed by massive floods of 1824 (after the floods British Government formed a bund and present city of Dera Ismail Khan was founded on its west). Karlus of the area got settled on both sides of River Indus and the members kept selling their lands. Today people of Karlu Tribe are an active society and it's members are thriving in various fields of life. They are farmers, teachers, public servants, businessmen, engineers and army officers. Most importantly they are educated, kind, patriotic and fun loving people. Their favourite foods are traditionally prepared Sobat and Pulao.
